1. 9. The Black Belles - The Black Belles
Debut album for this Nashville band signed on Jack White’s Third Man Records label. I first heard of them when TMR put out their single What Can I Do? a year ago or so, and have been expecting this debut album ever since.I must say, I’ve not been let down, this album is pretty raw, with amazing guitar riffs full of fuzz and distortion. It is totally the kind of blues-garage rock one would expect TMR to sell. You can clearly hear that these girls are quite heavily influenced by The White Stripes and Jack White in general though…no wonder they’re on his label. Olivia Jean’s voice is pretty great as well, there’s an aggressive tone to it that I really enjoy.Little “problem” with them is that maybe it sounds too much like Jack White is behind it?

This record…so good. So, so good. I think it might be in my top 5 of 2011.

I think I’ll fall in love with these girls at some point, maybe around November when their debut album is released.

  6. “Honky Tonk Horror” is also the first taste of The Black Belles’ self-titled debut album due out this November (B-side “Dead Shoe” does not appear on the album). Produced by Jack White and recorded at the Third Man Studio in Nashville, The Black Belles (TMR122) will feature the following 11 original songs written by Olivia Jean and The Black Belles:

    “Leave you with a Letter”
    “In A Cage”
    “Wishing Well”
    “Honky Tonk Horror”
    “The Wrong Door”
    “Breathing Down My Neck”
    “The Tease”
    “Howl at the Moon”
    “Pushing Up Daisies”
    “Not Tonight”
    “Hey Velda”

FUCK YEAH! although What Can I Do? is not on the album…

    The wait is (almost) over!!

  7. What Can I Do? - The Black Belles

I was curious about the artists on Third Man Records, and I discovered them. I can’t say the drums are good, but it still sounds dirty and great. I wonder if they’ll have an album out, instead of only a single
